Bio:
Steve Kerr (born Steven Douglas Kerr on September 27, 1965 in Beirut, Lebanon) in an American professional basketball coach and former 5-times NBA champion. Steve was born to Malcolm Kerr, an American academic specializing in the Middle East. He grew up in Lebanon and other Middle Eastern countries before finishing high school in Pacific Palisades, California. Steve was barely recruited by the University of Arizona to play basketball but he helped turn the U of A basketball program around. In 1986, he was named to the USA Basketball team to compete in the FIBA World Championships. They took home the gold medal. In 1988, Steve led the Wildcats to the Final Four. That year, the Phoenix Suns picked him in the second round of the NBA Draft, but he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1989. In 1993, Steve signed with the Chicago Bulls. Along with Michael Jordan, Steve and the Bulls won NBA Championships in 1996-1998. In 1999, Steve was traded to the San Antonio Spurs and they won the NBA Championship that year. After playing the 2001-02 season with the Portland Trail Blazers, Steve returned to the Spurs for his final season. He went out on the high note, winning his fifth and final NBA Championship as a player. After four years as a television analyst for TNT, Steve joined the Phoenix Suns as general manager. In 2010, he stepped down to join the Golden State Warriors as head coach. In 2015, he led the team to their first NBA Championship in 40 years.

Personal Life:
In 1984, members of Islamic Jihad assassinated Steve’s father, who had taken over the role of president of American University of Beirut in Beirut. His father’s death was national news, with then-president Ronald Reagan mourning the loss. Steve is married to Margot Kerr and they have three children together – Madeleine, Matthew and Nicholas.
