Bio:
River Phoenix (born River Jude Phoenix in Madras, Oregon on April 23, 1970) was an actor, activist and musician. He was nominated for an Academy Award in 1988 for his role in Running on Empty. Additionally he formed a band with his sister, Aleka’s Attic. His success was cut short in 1993 when he died from drug-induced heart failure at the age of 23. In 2013, renowned author Gavin Edwards opened up about a book about his life in Last Night at the Viper Room.

Best Known For:
River Phoenix was best known for his roles in Stand By Me and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and became a teen sensation.

Personal Life:
River Phoenix is the brother to Rain Phoenix, Joaquin Phoenix, Summer Phoenix and Liberty Phoenix. He was in a relationship with Samantha Mathis in 1993, when he was set to perform with Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers. He collapsed outside, and convulsed for five minutes, and although his sister tried to perform CPR, he did not survive. His cause of death was drug-induced heart failure. He was just 23.
