Elaine Chao (born March 26, 1953 in Taipei, Taiwan) is an American politician. She served under George W. Bush as the US Secretary of Labor from 2001-2009 and Deputy Secretary of Transportation under George H.W. Bush. She was the first Asian American woman and Chinese American to be appointed to a U.S. president’s cabinet. On November 29, 2016, it was announced that Elaine was chosen to serve as the Trump Administration’s Secretary of Transportation.

Personal Life:
In 1993, Elaine married US Senator for Kentucky Mitch McConnell. They were introduced by Stuart Bloch and his wife, Julia Chang Bloch, the US Ambassador to Nepal.
