Bio:
Dipa Karmakar (born August 9, 1993 in Agartala, Tripura, India) is an Indian artistic gymnast. She is the first Indian female gymnast to ever compete in the Olympics and the first gymnast of either sex to compete in the Olympics in 52 years. She first gained attention after winning the bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. She is one of only five women to successfully land the Produnova off the vault, which is the most difficult trick to perform in women’s gymnastics. She finished third at the Asian Gymnastics Championships and fifth at the 2015 Worlds, both firsts for her country. At the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Dipa placed fourth in the Women’s Vault event.

Personal Life:
Dipa started practicing gymnastics when she was 6 years old. When she began, Dipa had flat feet, which is an undesirable trait for a gymnast. Through training, she was able to develop an arch in her foot.
