Being as famous as the Robertsons of course comes with a lot of pressure, but in a new film by the Christian group IAmSecond, we learn that the celebrity went to Reed’s head and even went so far as to cause him to contemplate suicide.
“I guess I got really caught up in thinking that I was better than everyone else because of who my family was,” Reed says in the film, adding that his cynicism turned people away from him and caused him to have suicidal thoughts, which he eventually shared with his youth minister and his parents.
Fortunately, his parents, Jase Robertson and Missy Robertson, after getting emotional, were able to reason with him and help him “get back on track with Jesus.”
“I just thought about, like, ‘I’m about to leave all these people that I could have a really huge impact with,’” Reed says. “I was finally free of doubts, of having an attitude of being cynical, and I remember being so relieved.”
This new film is full of surprises about the Robertsons. It also revealed that Reed’s grandfather, Phil Robertson, 67, was an alcoholic who cheated on his wife, Miss Kay, before he gave up drinking and found Jesus.
“You can only run the ‘ol sex, drugs, and rock and roll so far,” Phil says in the film, which was broadcast on Nov. 21 on IAmSecond.com.
We’re so glad the whole Duck Dynasty clan seems to have turned their lives around and learned some valuable lessons along the way!
