Vera Wang (born June 27, 1949 in New York City, New York) is an American fashion designer. In 1970, Vera was a senior fashion editor for Vogue and turned down the editor-in-chief position to work at Ralph Lauren as a design director. In 1990, Vera opened her own design salon in the Carlyle Hotel In New York, where she began to sell her trademark bridal gowns. She has since designed wedding gowns for many public features such as, Chelsea Clinton, Victoria Beckham, Kim Kardashian and Kate Hudson. Her evening wear has been worn by Michelle Obama, Sofia Vergara, Sandra Bullock and Viola Davis. In 2002. Vera extended her brand into the home decor industry, launching The Vera Wang Chine and Crystal Collection. In 2011, Vera launched “White by Vera Wang,” a more affordable line of bridal gowns sold at David’s Bridal. She has expanded her bridal boutiques to London, Tokyo and Sydney.

Personal Life:
Vera Wang was born and raised in New York City. She started figure skating at age 8 and competed in the 1968 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. When she failed to make the U.S. Olympic team, she turned to the fashion industry. Vera married Arthur Becker in 1989. They have two adopted daughters, Cecilia, born in 1990, and Josephine, born in 1993. In 2012, Vera Wang Co. announced the couple had separated.
