Poppy Harlow

Bio:
Poppy Harlow (born Katharine Julia Harlow on May 2, 1982 in Saint Paul, Minnesota) is a journalist. Poppy grew up outside the Twin Cities in Minnesota, attending the Blake School before graduating cum lade in 2001. From there, Poppy attended Columbia University. She pledged for the Phi Beta Kappa sorority and graduated magna cum laude in 2005 with a degree in political science. Poppy interned at CBS while in college, and after graduating, she continued to work for CBS MarketWatch. She also was an assistant producer for CBS Newspath. Her major on-screen role came when she was an anchor and reporter for NY1 News’ Local Edition, covering Staten Island and New Jersey’s politics, economy and local cultural events. In 2007, Poppy went to work for Forbes.com’s Video Network, expanding her coverage to include fashion, entertainment and business topics. In 2008, CNN hired Poppy. She served as an anchor for CNNMoney.com and reported for CNN, CNN International and HLN. In 2012, she was named a New York-based CNN correspondent. In 2015, Poppy gave CNN viewers a scare when she passed out, live on the air.

Personal Life:
Poppy’s nickname comes from her mother, who called her “Poppy” from birth. She and he husband, Sinsia Babcic, announced in the spring of 2015 that they were expecting their first child, a daughter. In 2013, while reporting on the conviction of two Steubenville, Ohio football players for the rape for a sixteen-year-old girl, Poppy expressed sympathy towards the two men. Poppy was then subject to widespread criticism, and a petition calling for her to apologize for her comments received 250,000 signatures within two days.
