Ed Asner

Bio:
Ed Asner (born Edward David Asner on November 15, 1929, in Kansas City, Missouri) is an American film, TV, stage, and voice actor and former president of the Screen Actors Guild. He became famous for his role as Lou Grant on The Mary Tyler Moore Show in 1970. In 1977, his character was granted a spin off, Lou Grant, which ran until 1982. Ed had an incredible voice acting career in the 90’s. He provided the voices for characters in Spider-Man (1994-98), Captain Planet, and the Planeteers (1990-95), Gargoyles (1994-96), Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and its sequel, Batman: The Animated Series (1992-94), and many others. Ed received the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award in 2001. He has won more Emmy Awards for performing than any other male actor, with a total of seven. He was also inducted into the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame in 2003. In 2009, he starred in the animated film Up, as the voice of Carl Fredericksen, and in 2011, he played Hank Greziek in the sitcom, Working Class. In 2013, he starred in a Canadian TV series called Michael, Tuesdays and Thursdays. He has also provided voice-over narration for multiple documentaries and films of social activism.

Personal Life:
Ed married Nancy Sykes in 1959, and later divorced in 1988. The couple had three children together. In 1998 Ed remarried to Cindy Gilmore. On Nov. 7, 2007, Cindy filed for divorce. He is very involved with the autism nonprofit Autisum Speaks, and also serves on the advisory board of a Chicago firm that employs people with autistic spectrum disorders to test and program software.
