In the case of American Horror Story: Coven, it’s merely a temporary state during which time a beloved character is taken out of the picture. After all, two of the show’s main staples — Emma Roberts’ Madison and Evan Peters’ Kyle — are now alive-ish and kicking after suffering brutal murders. But what about the victims of the Jan. 8 episode?

At the end of the Dec. 4 episode of American Horror Story: Coven, “The Sacred Taking,” the show delivered it’s most delightfully shocking twist yet. During a season where pretty much nobody is allowed to die, producers broke the rules by subjecting one character to a fate even worse than death.
