AJ Lee

Bio:
AJ Lee (born April Jeanette Mendez on March 19, 1987 in Union City, New Jersey) is a retired American professional wrestler. Early in her life, AJ’s family struggled financially and moved frequently from home to home, even living out of the family car at one point. After graduating high school, AJ worked multiple part time jobs to help support her family. She briefly attended NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in New York City but left due to her family’s financial matters. AJ soon enrolled in wrestling school after leaving NYU. She made her professional debut in 2007. For the next two years, she performed throughout the New Jersey pro-wrestling circuit before singing with the WWE in 2009. AJ trained in the WWE’s developmental program with Florida Championship Wrestling before debuting on the company’s NXT program in 2010. Though eliminated from the reality-television style program, she joined the WWE’s main roster in 2011. AJ won the WWE Divas Championship on June 13, 2013, the first of three times she would hold the title. AJ announced her retirement from wrestling on Apr.03, 2015.

Personal Life:
AJ has two older siblings: sister, Erica and brother, Robert. AJ credits her brother’s childhood interest in wrestling as her motivation to become a wrestler. She married former professional wrestler Phil Brooks (better known as CM Punk) on June 13, 2014, one year after she won her first championship. In addition to wrestling, AJ has interests in comic books, anime and video games.
