Paul Simon (born Paul Frederic Simon in Newark, New Jersey on October 13, 1941) is a musician, singer-songwriter and actor. He is one half of the iconic duo Simon & Garfunkel. He has received 12 Grammys over the course of his career, as well as the Lifetime Achievement Award. He is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Simon is currently on a worldwide tour with Sting.
Best Known For:
Paul Simon is best known for being in Simon & Garfunkel and writing most of the group’s songs, including “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, “The Sound of Silence” and “Mrs. Robinson.”
Personal Life:
Simon first married and later divorced Peggy Harper, and they have a son, Harper Simon. His second marriage was to actress Carrie Fisher. He proposed to her after a Yankees baseball game, and based the song “Hearts and Bones” on their relationship. He is currently married to folk singer Edie Brickell, and they have three children named Lulu, Gabriel and Adrian. As a philanthropist, Simon supports youth music education. Furthermore, he is a major benefactor of the Children’s Health Project and the Children’s Health Fund, both of which provide medical resources to children in underserved areas.
