Mike Myers and Dana Carvey in ‘Wayne’s World’ — Mike Myers and Dana Carvey in ‘Wayne’s World.’ It originally started out as a skit on ‘Saturday Night Live’ as a pair of rock fans Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar who broadcast a public access TV show from Wayne’s basement in Aurora, Illinois. The skit became such a sensation that it was brought to the big screen in 1992. A critical and commercial smash, it ended up being the eigth highest grossing film of that year and the biggest moneymaker of any ‘SNL’ skit turned into a film. Tia Carrere played Wayne’s love interest Cassandra Wong, the singer and bassist of the band Crucial Taunt. Rob Lowe starred as rich and handsome Benjamin Kane, who attempted to steal her away. The film’s sequel came out the following year in 1993. There was a mini-Wayne’s World reunion at the 2019 Oscars when stars Mike and Dana came out to introduce Best Picture nominee ‘Bohemian Rhapsody,’ a nod to the Queen song being beloved to Wayne and Garth. The guys proved they’ve still got it, as Mike in his best Wayne voice said, “We’re not worthy” and Dana as Garth proclaimed, “I think I’m gonna hurl.”
