Jennifer Aniston: Honoree Of Variety’s Power Of Women: Los Angeles Luncheon — Jennifer Aniston was named as one of the six honorees of Variety’s Power Of Women: Los Angeles 2019 luncheon! Mariah Carey, Awkwafina, Chaka Khan, Brie Larson and Dana Walden were the five others who rounded out that list, and they’ll all be honored at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles on Oct. 11, 2019. The event will be held in partnership with Lifetime Television.

Each woman was picked for her “humanitarian efforts” and contributions to society through their chosen causes. Jennifer encourages donations for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Mariah serves as a board member on The Fresh Air Fund, Awkwafina works with and donates to Building Beats, Chaka is involved with Little Kids Rock, Brie is starring in ‘Just Mercy,’ a movie about the Equal Justice Initiative, and Dana is the Vice Chair of the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. All big roles that deserve recognition!

Jennifer has been dedicating her time to the Jude Thanks and Giving® campaign since 2008, in which she appears in promotional media for the campaign and asks shoppers to donate to the hospital during the holiday season.

Chaka Khan: Honoree Of Variety’s Power Of Women: Los Angeles Luncheon — Throughout her five decades as a singer, musician and songwriter, Chaka Khan has won 10 Grammy Awards and was nominated for 20 Grammys total! She made her breakthrough as the lead singer of the funk band Rufus, and now, she’s helping students make their big breaks in music too. Chaka, whose real name is Yvette Marie Stevens, has become involved with Little Kids Rock, which improves music programs in K-12 classrooms around the U.S. by supplying instruments/curriculum, introducing more diverse genres, and bringing ‘innovative and inclusive music education’ to students, according to Variety’s press release.

Brie Larson: Honoree Of Variety’s Power Of Women: Los Angeles Luncheon — Brie Larson made major waves in the film industry with her Oscar-winning role in ‘The Room,’ and then with her titular role in ‘Captain Marvel.’ Brie has lent her acting talent to a special project, ‘Just Mercy,’ which is a film based on the true story of the Equal Justice Iniative’s founder, Bryan Stevenson. He gave legal representation to those who were wrongfully convicted or just couldn’t afford it, and that work is still being carried out today by the Equal Justice Iniative. The film will premiere on Dec. 25, 2019.

Mariah Carey: Honoree Of Variety’s Power Of Women: Los Angeles Luncheon — In between her long-running Las Vegas residency, ‘The Butterfly Returns,’ Mariah Carey has found the time to also serve as a board member on The Fresh Air Fund. The not-for-profit agency allows kids from low-income communities in NYC to participate in free summer experiences, including one named after the Songbird herself: Camp Mariah! It’s a three and a half week summer program that allows kids to explore their career interests: fashion, international relations, photography, you name it! The camp serves as the summer component of The Fresh Air Fund’s year-round Career Awareness Program.

Awkwafina: Honoree Of Variety’s Power Of Women: Los Angeles Luncheon — Awkwafina made moviegoers laugh in ‘Crazy Rich Asians,’ and cry in the dramedy, ‘The Farewell.’ But Awkwafina can also lay down a mean beat, which she has proved on two albums: ‘Yellow Ranger’ and ‘In Fina We Trust.’ The actress/rapper has lent this musical expertise to low-income and minority children in NYC through the non-profit organization Building Beats, which develops DJ and digital music production programs for these students. Awkwafina also donates to Building Beats.

Dana Walden: Honoree Of Variety’s Power Of Women: Los Angeles Luncheon — After 21st Century Fox merged with The Walt Disney Company in March 2019, Dana Walden went on to become the chairwoman of the Disney Television Studios and ABC Entertainment. She juggles that high-profile job with another big role — Vice Chair of the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center! The center is made up more than 500 physicians and phycisists, who engage in ‘cancer research, prevention, detection, control, treatment and education,’ according to Variety’s press release.
