Valerie B. Jarrett served in President Barack Obama’s administration as a Senior Advisor. In addition to that and overseeing the Offices of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs, she also chaired the White House Council on Women and Girls.
Jarrett’s friendship with Barack and Michelle Obama stretches back decades earlier to July 1991 when she interviewed the future First Lady (then Michelle Robinson) for a Chicago city government job. What followed was a personal and professional relationship that continues to the present day. (As of 2020, for example, Jarrett is one of the co-chairs of Michelle Obama’s When We All Vote non-partisan, non-profit, urging people to register to vote.)
A Stanford University and University of Michigan Law School graduate, Jarrett is also an author who penned the 2019, New York Times bestseller, ‘Finding My Voice: My Journey to the West Wing and the Path Forward.’ A proud mother and a grandmother, she is determined to encourage Americans to make their voice heard at the ballot box. ‘It is our most basic responsibility of citizenship,’ she tells HollywoodLife.
