‘The Vampire Diaries’

‘The Vampire Diaries’ — Ten years ago, on September 10th, 2009, the pilot for ‘The Vampire Diaries’ premiered on the CW, ushering in a new era for the network. What was initially written off as a knock-off ‘Twilight’, soon became the most-watched series on TV, with it’s devoted fanbase ensuring it’s longevity. The series lasted 8 seasons and gave life to two spin-offs, including ‘Legacies,’ which is entering it’s second season this fall.

The show made superstars of Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, Paul Weasley, among the other charismatic young stars in the cast. When the Salvatore Boys’ story ended in 2017, many of the stars went off to great things, like new series, charity work, and start families. Nina Dobrev

Nina Dobrev — At the center of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ story was Elana Gilbert, a young girl who has lost her parents in a car wreck and ultimately falls in love with a vampire — and then the vampire’s brother — and then back to the original vampire. And so on… Nina stayed with the series for 6 of the 8 seasons it ran, playing not only Elena, but herruthless and vicious doppelganger ancestor Katherine Pierce, as well as Amara, the ‘original’ of the Gilbert women. Nina returned for the show’s finale, before moving on to other projects like movies ‘Dog Days’ and ‘Flatliners’ and the CBS show ‘Fam’. She also starred in the 2019 film ‘Lucky Day’.

Ian Somerhalder

Ian Somerhalder — Ian Somerhalder played the eldest of the vampire Salvatore brothers, Damon, who constantly fought the demons within himself. At times, he was a bloody-thirsty killer; at others, he was the moral pillar for his brother, Stefan, and the true love of his life, Elana. Ian stayed with the series through to the end of the eight season run. During the series, Ian married ‘Twilight’ star Nikki Reed and shortly after the show ended, the pair welcomed their first child, a daughter. Ian will return to his vampire roots with the new Netflix show, ‘V-Wars’, as the lead character, Dr. Luther Swann.

Paul Wesley

Paul Wesley — Paul Wesley charming smile and soulful eyes hid the fact that his character, Stefan Salvatore, was equally brutal as his brother, Damon. On The Vampire Diares, fans watched as Paul explored the depths of Stefan’s tortured soul for eight seasons, as well as championed his romance with Elana Gilbert. Ultimately, his brother landed the girl, but Stefan found love with fellow vampire Caroline and married her before his shocking end in the finale. Since the show end, Paul has stayed in the sci-fi genre in his new show, ‘Tell Me A Story’. He’s also been in the news lately, confirming that he and co-star Nina Dobrev ‘clashed’ at the start of the show, despite playing love interests. He is also set to star in the 2020 series ‘Defending Jacob’.

Kat Graham

Kat Graham — Kat Graham worked her magic as witchy Bonnie Bennet for all eight seasons of the show, saving both her friends and herself from mystical dangers at every turn. These days, Kat heard both through her music and as April O’Neil on the animated series ‘Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’.

Candice King

Candice King — Candice King quickly became a fan favorite on ‘Vampire Diaries’ as Caroline Forbes, the cheerleader turned most responsible vampire of all-time. Her romances in the town of Mystic Falls rivaled those of Elana Gilbert, though she ultimately married Stefan Salvatore before he met his end. After the show ended, she made guest appearances on both spin-offs, ‘The Originals’ and ‘Legacies’ and now hosts a podcast with fellow TVD alum, Kayla Ewell. She’s also set to star in the 2020 film ‘After We Collided’.

Matthew Lewis

Matthew Lewis — Alaric Saltzman came to Mystic Falls to kill some vampires, but over eight seasons on TVD and now the spin-off, Matthew Lewis’ beloved character has not only called most of these creatures of the night his friends, but he’s even fallen in love with a few. These day, Matt can be seen on the latest installment of the franchise, ‘Legacies’ — and maybe another ‘Legally Blonde’ if someone could be so kind?!

Zach Roerig

Zach Roerig — Zach Roerig’s character Matt seemed to be the only resident of Mystic Falls who escaped being turned into a vampire — but barely! For eight seasons, Matt was the true moral compass for many of the characters, keeping them in check by reminding them the importance of having humanity. Since leaving the show, Zach has had guest spots on shows like ‘The Gifted’, ‘God Friended Me’, and yes, he’s also shown up on the spin-off off TVD, ‘Legacies’. He also joined the series ‘Dare Me’ in 2019.

Michael Trevino

Michael Trevino — Michael Trevino played werewolf Tyler Lockwood over the course of the eight seasons on TVD, as well as showing up on both spin-offs, ‘The Originals’ and ‘Legacies’. But now, Michael can be seen on the reboot of ‘Roswell’ on The CW. Doesn’t feel like the network without him!

Steven R. McQueen

Steven R. McQueen — Steven R. McQueen played Elana’s brooding, drug-taking, tortured younger brother Jeremy, who had to endure being killed … like 100 times! But he was always resurrected, both on the show, and on the spin-offs. He recently popped up on ‘Legacies’, letting fans know that Jeremy can never truly be put down! He also starred in the show ‘Medal of Honor’ in 2018.

Kayla Ewell

Kayla Ewell — Kayla Ewell only lastest one season on ‘The Vampire Diaries’, being killed off mid-season by Damon Salvatore. However, she was gone, but never forgetton, popping up at Matt’s sister Vicky in several key storylines over the course of the show. Now, she hosts a podcast with fellow TVD alum, Candice King and stars in ‘Roswell, New Mexico’.
