The memorial for Takeoff was held on Nov. 11, 2022, in Atlanta, Georgia. The ‘Celebration of Life’ for the slain Migos star came roughly two weeks after Takeoff (b. Kirshnik Khari Ball) was shot and killed in a Houston, Texas bowling alley. The memorial was held at the State Farm Arena, allowing the residents of Atlanta – who saw Takeoff rise to hip-hop superstardom as part of Migos – to pay their respects to their friend and hero.
‘Takeoff was one of the most influential names in modern music whose creativity left a profound impact on music and culture as we know it today,’ his family said when announcing the Celebration of Life. ‘The cherished Quality Control/Motown superstar was a part of the supergroup Migos and was a beloved son, grandson, brother, nephew, and friend to so many.’
Ahead of the memorial, reports claimed that Drake had postponed his New York City show to attend the event and that both Justin Bieber and Alicia Keys were booked to perform.
Takeoff’s family requested that “donations should be made to The Rocket Foundation which was recently established to support programs which are saving lives through proven, community-based solutions to prevent gun violence.”
