Robin Roberts has earned her place as one of television’s most iconic and beloved broadcasters. The Mississippi native spent fifteen years with ESPN, winning over sports fans’ hearts with her trademark catchphrase (“Go on with your bad self!”) During her tenure on ‘SportsCenter,’ She began to work with ABC News, specifically as a featured reporter on “Good Morning America.’ Her work won her the Mel Greenberg Media Award, presented by the WBCA, in 2001. In 2005, she was promoted to co-anchor of ‘GMA.’ Alongside George Stephanopoulos, Robin ushered in a new golden era for ‘GMA.’ As a newscaster, Robin developed a no-nonsense interview style that earned her praise. She won the 2014 Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism and was inducted into the Sports Broadcasting Hall Of Fame in 2016.
In 2012, five years after successfully battling breast cancer, Robin was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome. She chronicled her fight against MBS on the show, including her chemo treatment and bone marrow transplant. She would be rewarded with the 2012 Peabody Award for the coverage.
