Six weeks later, Gronk announced his retirement from the NFL at age 29, after a career plagued with injuries. He wrote on his Instagram on March 24, 2019, “It all started at 10 years old on stage at the NFL draft when my dream came true, and now here I am about to turn 30 in a few months with a decision I feel is the biggest of my life so far. I will be retiring from the game of football today. I am so grateful for the opportunity that Mr. Kraft and Coach Belichick gave to me when drafting my silliness in 2010,” referring to team owner Robert Kraft and Coach Bill Belichick.

But Gronk’s competitive spirit couldn’t be stopped. He became interested in rejoining the NFL when 42-year-old Brady was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, signing with the team on March 20, 2020 for a reported $30 million per year. Gronk had always said that the only QB he would play for was Brady, and on Apr. 21, he announced that he was coming out of retirement so that the Pats could trade him to the Bucs along with a seventh round draft pick in exchange for a fourth round draft pick and not paying the remaining $10 million for Gronk’s final year of his contract with the Pats. Now Gronk and Brady are reunited in Tampa Bay and many sports analysts are predicting the reunion of two of the NFL’s greatest players could result in another Super Bowl ring for the men.
