Novi Brown — Novi Brown is currently starring as ‘Sabrina Hollins’ in Tyler Perry’s ‘SISTAS’ on BET as a Series Regular and visited HollywoodLife.com to talk about her booming career & more! The show, which is written, directed and executive produced by Tyler Perry, follows a group of single black women as they navigate the ups-and-downs of modern life, which includes careers, friendships, romances, and even social media. Novi’s Sabrina Hollins is a smart and stylish bank teller who meets a man named Calvin, who is sexually fluid. “So that’s the storyline that I have going on. Is he gay? Is he not gay?” she explained in an EXCLUSIVE podcast interview with HollywoodLife.

On Getting The Role Of Sabrina — “I was in the hole for rent, I was writing somebody’s script and then the guy jipped me on the script, so he didn’t give me my full payment and I wrote a hundred page script in 13 days and I was like, Oh my God, this is crazy, I need to pay my rent. I think the universe was testing to see my patience level was to see like, “do you get the lessons that I’ve been trying to teach you this whole time? I got this, we got this,” because I got a call from Kim Coleman & she asked me to go in for Sabrina.’

On Sabrina Hollins — “For everybody that doesn’t know, Sistas is about a group of four melanated young queens doing their thing, trying to find love and life in Atlanta. And my character, Sabrina Hollins is a bank manager and she meets this guy named Calvin and he seems to be sexually fluid. So that’s the storyline that I have going on. Is he gay? Is he not gay?”

On Persevering In Hollywood — “And Gina Holden, who’s obviously been an industry just for so long, she gave me a great piece of advice. She said, ‘listen, don’t leave. Everyone leaves LA. It’s about perseverance.’ I understand how hard it is to be told no because I’ve been on over 2,500 auditions and most of them have been “no’s” obviously.”

On Interacting With Fans — “That is my thing. Wednesday is my day to interact with people. I almost make it an all-day event. Like I’m on my Live all day. If I’m not doing press stuff, I’m talking to people, being on Twitter.”

Breaking Down Sabrina Hollins’ Character — “Sabrina is the peacemaker. If I would give her an astrological sign, I always say she’s a Libra. She just doesn’t want any beef. You know, she wants to keep it cool. She loves everybody and she’s also the person that maybe hasn’t found their inner voice yet or hasn’t tuned it all the way up yet. And I feel like that’s a very important person to watch regardless of how old you are, because I feel like a lot of people say, “Oh, you’re 30 you should have it together.” Said who? You know? And I feel like that kind of subconscious or unspoken competitive, “Oh, I got to get to 30 and do this.” It really holds people back from fulfilling their dreams in a comfortable way. You know? And it makes people anxiety written and then depression comes and then you want to stop your dreams and all these other things.”

On Filming 25 Episodes 12 1/2 Days — “It’s very family-oriented. Everybody knows their goal, they know how he shoots, they know what he wants. And I just feel like if you come prepared… My job as an actor is to deliver two things, my lines and the emotions, everything else everybody else has to kind of fill in. ? So it’s really good that we have a comprehensive team. Everybody wants to see us win. You know, because it was a very emotional time. So many emotions were going on.”

What She’s Doing After ‘Sistas’ — “I’m doing so many different things, but my focus right now is just to introduce myself to you guys. I want to get to know everybody here. I want to come and meet all the media people. I’m auditioning of course, but I’m also a writer. So my goal is to sell my own show this year. I have everything, because I’ve been out there doing everything. So it’s not a matter of if I just came so prepared into this industry that… The world is at my feet.”

On Representation & Equal Opportunities In Hollywood — “We have to keep talking about it & I don’t care how tired you get of it. I’m tired of having to struggle so hard every day to have a normal existence. Please point me out any other diaspora of people who literally have to be nicer, be kinder, be smarter, work harder just to have a normal, safe life. wild. We literally, as a default, come into this space with less and now we have to work five times as hard just to get the respect and opportunities and it’s just not right.”
