Michelle Carter is a Massachusetts woman who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in June 2017 for the 2014 death of her boyfriend, Conrad Roy. The court found Michelle guilty of Conrad’s death when she encouraged the then 18-year-old, her long distance boyfriend, to commit suicide over a series of texts. Conrad, deeply depressed, told Michelle that he was contemplating suicide, but having second thoughts. She repeatedly told him to “just do it,” and even convinced him to get back into his car as it was filling with carbon monoxide. His body was found in his car in the parking lot of a Kmart, near Boston.

Michelle was sentenced to 15 months in prison; she was released early, in January 2020, for “good behavior.” She served 11 months of her sentence. To see pics of Michelle from her trial in 2017, and learn more about the controversial case, scroll through this gallery.
