U.S. gymnasts, left to right wearing red, Gabrielle Douglas, McKayla Maroney, Alexandra Raisman, Jordyn Wieber and Kyla Ross celebrate with coaches Jenny Zhang, front left, Mihai Brestyan, back left, John Geddert, center, and Liang Chow, right, after their team won the gold medal for the Artistic Gymnastics women’s team final at the 2012 Summer Olympics, Tuesday, July 31, 2012, in London.

The group was known as the “Fab Five” after their winning ways in London. Sadly in 2017, all five came forward to reveal that they had suffered sexual abuse by the team’s doctor, Larry Nassar. It became a huge scandal, with over 200 other gymnastics victims coming forward. He pled guilty in 2017 to seven counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and was sentenced to 40-175 years in prison. Coach Geddert was accused by Raisman of knowing about the abuse and turning a blind eye to it.

On Feb. 23, 2021, Geddert was charged by the state of Michigan with state of Michigan with 14 counts of human trafficking — forced labor causing injury, six counts of human trafficking of a minor for forced labor, one count of first-degree sexual assault, one count of second-degree sexual assault, one count criminal enterprise-racketeering and one count of lying to a police officer. He killed himself shortly before he was due to turn himself in to authorities.
