The American actor, stand-up comedian, writer, producer, and director rose to fame with his sarcastic style of observational comedy in the ’90s and has been making people laugh ever since. Born on April 29, 1954 in Brooklyn, New York City, he later graduated from Queens College with a degree in communications and theater.

Jerry rocketed to fame playing a fictionalized version of himself in the sitcom, ‘Seinfeld’, which he created and wrote with Larry David. The show aired for nine seasons from July 1989 until May 1998, winning 10 Emmys over the years.

In 2005, Comedy Central named Jerry the ’12th Greatest Stand-up Comedian of All Time’. The comic produced, co-wrote, and starred in the 2007 film ‘Bee Movie’. In 2010, he premiered a reality series called ‘The Marriage Ref’, on NBC. He followed that with the series ‘Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee’. Seinfeld married Jessica Sklar on Christmas Day in 1999. Together, they have one daughter, Sascha (born in 2000), and sons, Julian Kal (born in 2003) and Shepherd Kellen (born in August 2005).

Jerry talked about the impact fatherhood has had on him with Parent.com in 2007, saying it has changed “almost everything I do”. “[From] trying to stay healthy, how I use my time and plan my schedule, I think: ‘If this takes me away from them, it better be very important.’

“I don’t travel that much when I do standup. I only go for the night or two nights at most, not for weeks at a time. That’s why I’m less likely to do another movie.”

While he’s made people around the world laugh, Jerry told Mr. Porter his kids can be a tough crowd. “They can be a tough audience,” he said in 2017.

“I had this joke the other day that I tried on them that I thought was really funny which was: ‘Here’s a statement never heard in the history of New York City: Hey why don’t we get a new awning?’ They just looked at me and they went, ‘Dad, that’s not funny at all.’ They were wrong. I tried it at a nightclub and it got a huge laugh.”

“That was it, that was my first joke,” Seinfeld says in the series.
