Jawan M. Jackson Exclusive Portraits — Jawan M. Jackson is one of the breakthrough stars of Broadway’s ‘Ain’t Too Proud,’ taking on the role of the late Melvin Franklin, the bass singer of the original Temptations. This is Jawan’s second time in the role of Melvin, the first being in his Broadway debut of ‘Motown: The Musical.’ “I’ve been living with Melvin for the last seven, eight years now, on and off. I’ve done other shows, I’ve done other things, but Melvin’s been the consistent in my life,” Jawan told HollywoodLife.com in an EXCLUSIVE interview. “I just count it a privilege. The last time, in ‘Motown’ it was just a snippet of his life, and ‘Ain’t Too Proud’ is a fully realized version of Melvin’s life.” The actor carries a blown-up version of Melvin Franklin’s original, Motown identification card on his backpack that Melvin’s wife gifted him, to take take the late singer with him at all times.
