During Groundhog Day 2020, Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow, which meant that he predicted we would have an early spring! According to Groundhog Day legend, if Phil sees his shadow (meaning it’s a clear day), he will run back back into his burrow and hide, which means six more weeks of winter. However, if it’s a cloudier day, and he does not see his shadow, he’ll stay outside the burrow — because spring is coming! Punxsutawney Phil has been making his Groundhog Day prediction at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania since 1886. Every year, he reveals the prediction to his ‘inner circle,’ who then share the results with the world. Groundhog Day takes place on Feb. 2 every year, and thousands gather in Punxsutawney to partake in the events and see whether or not Phil sees his shadow.
