Dick Van Dyke is one of Hollywood’s most celebrated actors and enduring performers! Let’s take a look back at his career.

One of the most iconic and well-beloved icons in Hollywood is Dick Van Dyke. Hailing from Danville, Illinois, Dick’s love of physical comedians like Stan Lauren and Buster Keaton would lead him into the world of show business. After serving as a radio announcer in the United States military, Dick landed a job as a radio DJ in his hometown. He began a career in television in the late 1950s. He landed a gig with CBS, hosting the morning program for a year.

Dick’s role on the Broadway show ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ resulted in Carl Reiner – who saw Dick’s talent on stage – casting him in ‘The Dick Van Dyke Show.’ A legendary career followed, including movies (Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Night at the Museum), television (Diagnosis: Murder), and more.

Dick celebrated his 98th birthday on December 13. Some of his co-stars and other performers that he’s influenced will honor him in a special 98 Years of Magic celebration on CBS on Thursday, December 21.

Dick’s six-decade career has established him as one of the shining stars of Hollywood, so take a look at his incredible legacy.

Julie would later say of her co-star, “I want to say it so well that I convey how much I really do adore him. You never got deeply beneath the surface as one sometimes does with people that you work with. In a way, that’s what I mean by being a little guarded. It was something that he had as an ethic, a kind of friendship ethic, a work ethic.”
