David Crosby was an iconic musician who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame twice – look back at photos of his life.
David Van Cortlandt Crosby was born on August 14, 1941. He was best known as a singer and songwriter who was successful in his own right as a solo artist but also founded both Byrds as well as Crosby, Stills & Nash with Stephen Stills (of Buffalo Springfield) and Graham Nash of the Hollies. The latter group was critically acclaimed and won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist of 1969 after their first album. Neil Young also frequently joined the trio for live performances in the 70s.
His incredibly successful career spawned over 35 million in sales, and he was also inducted not once, but twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The initial induction came for his work with Byrds, and the second for CSN.
David wed his wife Jan Dance in 1987 and the two share one song, Django. He is also father to five other children, including being the biological dad of Melissa Etheridge’s two children with ex-partner Julie Cypher: the late Beckett, who died in 2020 at age 21, and daughter Bailey. Crosby reunited with a song James who was given up for adoption in 1962 again in 1995, and he is also father to Erika Crosby and Donovan Crosby.
David sadly passed away on January 19, 2023, at the age of 81 – look back at photos of his life here.
