The year 2023 has already been heavy with celebrity losses. Remember the stars we lost this year in our gallery here.

Over the course of 2023, so many beloved celebrities have tragically passed away. Matthew Perry’s death stunned Hollywood and the rest of the world. The beloved Friends star died unexpectedly at 54 in October 2023.

Lee Sun-kyun — Lee Sun-kyun was found dead in his car in Seoul, South Korea, on December 27. He was just 48 years old. The actor was best known for his role in the Oscar-winning film Parasite.

Tom Smothers

Tom Smothers — Tom Smothers of the comedy music duo the Smothers Brothers died in California of lung cancer on December 26, 2023. He was 86. “Tom was not only the loving older brother that everyone would want in their life, he was a one-of-a-kind creative partner,” his brother Dick, 85, said in a statement. “I am forever grateful to have spent a lifetime together with him, on and off stage, for over 60 years. Our relationship was like a good marriage – the longer we were together, the more we loved and respected one another. We were truly blessed.”

Kamar de los Reyes

Kamar de los Reyes — One Life to Live and Call of Duty alum Kamar de los Reyes died on Christmas Eve at the age of 56. He passed away after a brief battle with cancer.

James McCaffrey

James McCaffrey — James McCaffrey, famous for his role in Max Payne, died on December 17 at the age of 65. He was battling multiple myeloma, a form of cancer, according to TMZ.

Andre Braugher

Andre Braugher — Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Homicide: Life on the Street star Andre Braugher died on December 11 at the age of 61. He passed away after a “brief illness.” Over the course of his career, Andre won two Emmy Awards. He is survived by his wife, Ami Brabson, and their three children.

Matthew Perry

Matthew Perry — ‘Friends’ star Matthew Perry died at his home after an apparent drowning in his hot tub on October 28. He was 54 years old.

“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother,” his family said in a statement to People. “Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend. You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.”

Tyler Christopher

Tyler Christopher — Tyler Christopher, who was known for his appearances on General Hospital, died on October 31, 2023. He was born in 1972 and died at the age of 50. His former co-star, Maurice Benard, confirmed the somber news via Instagram.

“It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Tyler Christopher,” Maurice penned at the time. “Tyler passed away this morning following a cardiac event in his San Diego apartment.” He went on to express his sadness over the loss of his friend. “We are beyond devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and his father,” he added.

Suzanne Somers

Suzanne Somers — Suzanne Somers died at the age of 76 on October 15. She was battling two types of cancer on and off before she passed away. Suzanne was surrounded by her family when she died.

Frances Sternhagen — Frances Sternhagen died on November 27 of natural causes. She was 93 years old. Frances was a Tony winner and had notable roles in On Golden Pond, Equus, and more. She also played Bunny MacDougal on Sex and the City.

Lisa Marie Presley — Lisa Marie Presley died on Jan. 12, 2023 at the age of 54. She suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and was hospitalized before passing away hours later.

Her mother Priscilla shared a statement, saying, “It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us. She was the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. David Crosby — News David Crosby had died at the age of 81 emerged on Jan. 19, 2023. The co-founder of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young passing was announced by his wife of 35 years, Jan Dance.

In a statement to the press, she shared, “It is with great sadness after a long illness, that our beloved David (Croz) Crosby has passed away. He was lovingly surrounded by his wife and soulmate Jan and son Django. Although he is no longer here with us, his humanity and kind soul will continue to guide and inspire us.”

“His legacy will continue to live on through his legendary music,” she continued. “Peace, love, and harmony to all who knew David and those he touched. We will miss him dearly. Gangsta Boo & More — Gangsta Boo was found dead inside a Memphis home on January 1, 2023, at the age of 43, reported by local network Fox13. A statement from her family said, “The Mitchell family would like to thank everyone for their condolences regarding the untimely death of Lola ‘Gangsta Boo’ Mitchell. The family is asking for your continued prayers and privacy as we process the loss of our loved one.”

The rapper, born Lola Chantrelle Mitchelle, was a prominent female lyricist from Memphis. She was even nicknamed “The Queen of Memphis.” The star was one of only two female members of the hip-hop group Three 6 Mafia.

Jeff Beck — Virtuoso guitarist Jeff Beck died on Jan. 9 at the age of 78. The news was shared via his official Twitter days later. The statement said, “On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing. After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday. His family ask for privacy while they process this tremendous loss.”

Tatjana Patitz — Model Tatjana Patitz’s death was reported by Vogue on Jan. 11, 2022. She was only 56.

The German model was one of the most famous faces of the 80s and 90s. Editor Anna Wintour paid tribute to the beauty, writing, “Tatjana was always the European symbol of chic, like Romy Schneider-meets-Monica Vitti. She was far less visible than her peers—more mysterious, more grown-up, more unattainable—and that had its own appeal.”

His racing team paid tribute to the star in a statement to CNN, saying, “Ken was a visionary, a pioneer and an icon. And most importantly, a father and husband. He will be incredibly missed. Please respect the family’s privacy at this time while they grieve.”
