Carl Lentz is a former pastor who led the Hillsong Church in New York City until November 5, 2020. The celebrity pastor counted numerous celebrities among his friends and congregants, including Chris Pratt, Selena Gomez, Kevin Durant, and Justin Bieber. Carl was fired for “moral failures,” according to a statement from Hillsong founder Brian Houston, who did not go into detail about what that meant, as it would “not be appropriate.”
Carl was once close friends with Justin, whom he counseled spiritually. He baptized Justin, a devout Christian, years ago, and counted him among his most devoted congregants. Justin even traveled to Australia with him to attend services at the Sydney church location. They had a falling out in 2018, however. It’s unclear what happened. Carl is married to a fellow Hillsong pastor, Laura Lentz.
