Celebrate Bruce Springsteen’s birthday with a look at him from his young days to today. Bruce Springsteen really is The Boss. The New Jersey rocker, born September 23, 1949, is an American songwriting icon known for his poetic lyrics, distinct voice, and high-energy live performances. After getting interested in the music of Elvis and Frank Sinatra, he bought his first guitar at 15. He began recording music in the 60s but didn’t find success until he formed the E-Street in the 70s.

Their hits are countless, but a short list of favorites includes “No Surrender”, “Everybody’s Got A Hungry Heart”, and “Born In The USA.” Over his career, Bruce has earned 20 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes, an Academy Award, and a Special Tony Award for Springsteen on Broadway.

Bruce has been married to bandmate Patti Scialfa since 1991. They have three children, including champion equestrian Jessica Springsteen. Bruce has gone from a young rocker to an international superstar over the years. See his best photos here.
