Academy Awards Hosts: Jimmy Kimmel & More — Hosting the Oscars is a true honor, but there’s no denying the major pressure to pull off a perfect performance. The Academy has invited comics, actors, and talk show regulars to take the gig, and it’s hard to deny how much hosting has been a mixed bag.

Jimmy Kimmel nailed his role as Oscars host in 2017, making him one of the few hosts to come back for more. He was back for 2019 and this year, he’ll be cracking jokes as the emcee for the 2023 Academy Awards.

Talking about his return to the Dolby Theater, the late-night host told USA Today, “Hopefully being away for a few years is good. I don’t think you want to do it too many times in a row, because people turn on you.”

Chris Rock

Chris Rock — Chris Rock first hosted the Oscars in 2005. Over a decade later, he took on the role again for the 88th Academy Awards in 2016.

Though he didn’t host in 2022, the comic’s time presenting became one of the most talked about Oscar moments of all time. After he made a joke comparing Jada Pinkett Smith to G.I. Jane while presenting the award for Best Documentary Feature, her husband Will Smith stepped up to the stage and slapped Chris. The rest is history!

Neil Patrick Harris — While he’s hosted the Tony Awards a handful of times, Neil Patrick Harris only hosted the Oscars once. He landed the role for the 87th Academy Awards in 2015.
