Suzanne Somers is one of the most adored sitcom actresses of all time. She starred in the classic show Three’s Company from 1977 to 1981. The actress, 76, has also been featured on the cover of Playboy and she’s starred in many other popular shows and movies, such as She’s The Sheriff, Step By Step, and Serial Mom.
By her side for much of her career has been her husband Alan Hamel, 87. The pair have been married for nearly 50 years, and it’s clear they keep their marriage very exciting! Unfortunately, Suzanne has had a series of health issues, including a recent battle with cancer, but Alan revealed that she’s currently cancer-free, and taking some time to recover in a July 2021 interview with Page Six. “On June 6, she got an all-clear, but cancer is tricky and we will now closely monitor everything going forward,” he said. How did Suzanne meet Alan?
Suzanne was very early in her acting career when she met the man she’d marry. She was working as a prize model on the game show The Anniversary Game, which Alan was the host of. Suzanne opened up about their first date in a May 2021 interview with Daily Blast Live.
She joked that she “did everything my mother told me not to do,” but after over 50 years together, they’re clearly still going strong. “I was 20 years old, and I thought I may never get another chance, so I had my first pot brownie. It’s the first time I ever went to a man’s hotel room, and it’s the first time I ever slept with a man on the first date. But we’re here all these years later. I just knew he was the one,” she said.

While the couple first met on The Anniversary Game, Suzanne and Alan tied the knot seven years later in 1977. The Three’s Company star celebrated their long-lasting love in a January 2023 Instagram post, showing photos of them back when they first started going out next to more current pictures. “Still smiling 55 years later,” she wrote in the caption.
Alan is a former TV host & producer
As mentioned above, Alan was a TV show host for a few game shows, including Wedding Party. He also served as the host of the kids’ show Razzle Dazzle and the talk shows The Alan Hamel Show, which Alan Thicke later took over. He also filled in for a few other famous talk shows, like The Merv Griffin Show, per IMDb.
Besides hosting, he did take on small acting roles, making guest appearances on shows like All In The Family, She’s The Sheriff, and Lou Grant. He later put his focus on being a producer, often collaborating with his wife on projects like Nothing Personal (1980), Keeping Secrets (1991), and Exclusive (1992).

Even though Suzanne and Alan are getting older, they’re not letting it slow down their sex life. The actress revealed that she and her husband often have sex multiple times a day. She’s credited hormone replacements for both of them keeping them sexually active. “He’s been on hormone replacements for over 20 years,” she said in the above-mentioned Daily Blast Live interview, where she also mentioned that their tequila cocktails may also help. “I may be in my 70s now, and I always thought when I got in this decade that it would be over and I just want people to know it ain’t over if you know how to take care of yourself.”

While Suzanne and Alan have had a long-lasting and loving marriage, he’s not her first husband. She got married to her first husband Bruce Somers in 1968, with who she had her son Bruce Jr., 57. The couple split up in 1968. Alan adopted Bruce Jr. when he and Suzanne got married. Alan was also married once before Suzanne. He wed Marilyn Shapiro in 1958, and they had a son Stephen and a daughter Leslie. Now, Suzanne and Alan are proud grandparents to three granddaughters Camelia, Violet, and Daisy.
