Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (born Santos Saul Alvarez Barragan in Guadalajara, Mexico on July 18, 1990) is a Mexican professional boxer. He is the current lineal, The Ring and WBC Middleweight Champion, as well as a past winner of the WBC, WBA, and The Ring light middleweight champion. According to BoxRec, he is currently ranked the best pound-for-pound fighter. He got his nickname from the Spanish word for cinnamon, which is a reference to his red hair. He has only suffered one defeat in his career and that was to Floyd Mayweather in 2013. He won the vacant lineal, The Ring and WBC Middleweight Champion by defeating Miguel Cotto in 2015.

Saul is best known for fighting Floyd Mayweather in 2013. The fight was deemed to be Floyd’s hardest, but he outclassed a young Saul earning a win on points at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.
