Ryan Phillippe (born Matthew Ryan Phillippe on September 10, 1974 in New Castle, Delaware) is an American actor and director. Growing up in Delaware, Ryan attended New Castle Baptist Academy, before enrolling into the Barbizon Modeling and Talent Agency. Ryan’s early acting career started in 1992 with the role of Billy Douglas on the ABC soap opera, One Life to Live, portraying the first gay teenager on a daytime soap. Ryan used this success to move to Los Angeles and find roles on TV shows Matlock and Due South. He also appeared in the films Crimson Tide and White Squall. His breakout role came in 1997’s I Know What You Did Last Summer, which cast him alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt. His next hit would be 1999’s Cruel Intentions. In the 2000s, Ryan appeared in critically acclaimed films Gosford Park, Igby Goes Down and Crash. Ryan returned to television in 2011, appearing on the fifth season of the show, Damages. He continued to work in television, starring in the 2015 show, Secrets and Lies.

Ryan met actress Reese Witherspoon during a party for her 21st birthday in 1997. They were engaged in 1998 and were married in 1999. They divorced in 2006. Together, Ryan and Reese have two children together – daughter Ava Gardner and son, Deacon Reese Phillippe. Ryan began dating Australian actress Abbie Corning in 2007. The two split in 2010. Ryan and model/actress Alexis Knapp began dating in 2010. Alexis would give birth to their daughter, Kailani Merizalde Phillippe-Knapp in 2011.
