Oscar Isaac (born Oscar Isaac Hernandez Estrada on March 9, 1979 in Guatemala) is a Guatemalan-American actor and singer. Oscar was born in Guatemala, but was raised in Miami, Florida. While in Miami, Oscar learned how to play guitar. He was the guitarist and singer for the band the Blinking Underdogs. Despite being expelled from high school for being a troublemaker, Oscar attended Julliard, graduating in 2005 with a drama degree. He began his acting career with roles in films Balibo, All About the Benjamins and Guerilla. He played King John in 2010’s Robin Hood. He starred in 2011’s crime drama, Drive, but his big break came in 2013. That year, he starred in the Coen Brothers’ film, Inside Llewyn Davis, playing a talented yet unsuccessful folk singer in 1960s New York City. He received a Golden Glove nomination for Best Actor. In 2015, Oscar continued his success by starring in the science fiction hit, Ex Machina. That year, he was cast as Poe Dameron, an X-Wing pilot in JJ Abram’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He also landed the role of Apocalypse, the main antagonist of X-Men: Apocalypse.

Oscar is a friend with fellow Julliard alum, Jessica Chastain. His mother is Guatemalan and his father is Cuban. Though he no longer plays with the ska-punk band, Blinking Underdogs, he continues to perform music. Oscar is one half of the alternative/indie rock duo, NightLab.
