Nate Ebner

Bio:
Nate Ebner (born December 14, 1988 in Dublin, Ohio) is an American football player and rugby sevens player. At 17 years old, Nate was the younger player to play on the US national rugby sevens team. He attended Ohio State University and, although he had no football experience, he was selected as a walk-on for the university’s football team. He was considered the team’s best special teams player. Nate was drafted by the New England Patriots in the 6th round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year contract with the team and in his rookie season, played all but one game. He finished second on the team in special teams tackles and special teams snaps in his first season. In March 2016, Nate signed a new, two-year deal with the Patriots, and the team granted him a leave of absence to try out for the US national rugby sevens team to qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics. In July 2016, Nate was named to the 2016 US rugby sevens team and received an exemption from the Patriots. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, Nate played in the team’s first two matches against Argentina and Brazil.

Best Known For:
Nate is best known for playing football for the Patriots and taking time off to go to the Olympics to represent Team USA on the rugby sevens team.

Personal Life:
Nate identifies with the Jewish religion, which his dad stresed the importance of growing up. His father, Jeff Ebner, was a college rugby player at University of Minnesota and a Sunday School principal at a Jewish temple in Ohio. He was beaten to death in 2008 during an attempted robbery at the family auto reclamation business.
