Missy Elliott (born Melissa Arnette Elliott, in Portsmouth, Virginia, on July 1, 1971) is an American singer-songwriter, rapper, and record producer. She started out in an R&B group, called Fayze, but later expanded her career as a solo artist and rapper. She went on to work with Timbaland and Aaliyah and their hit song “One in a Million” went double-platinum. Missy has won five Grammy Awards and sold over 30 million records in the United States. She is the only female rapper to have six albums certified platinum by the RIAA. Missy is also known for multiple diverse music videos, including “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)”, “Hot Boyz”, “Get Ur Freak On”, “Work It”, and the Grammy award-winning video for “Lose Control.”
