Maria Sharapova (born on April 19, 1987 in Nyagan, Russia) is a Russian tennis player. Maria went pro at the age of 17 in 2004, when she defeated top-seeded Serena Williams in the 2004 Wimbledon final. It was her first major championship. Maria became the top-ranked female player in tennis for the first time in 2005. As of 2013, Maria had won four major titles, one for each major tournament. Besides being one of the most noteworthy tennis players around, Maria has also been featured in many modeling campaigns, including a feature in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and ads for Nike, Canon, and Cole Haan.

Maria Sharapova was born in Russia but moved to the United States at seven to pursue her tennis career. She now lives in Bradenton, Florida. Maria was engaged to Slovenian NBA player Sasha Vujacic, but the two broke up in 2012 after three years of dating. She dated Grigor Dimitrov, an up and coming tennis player from Bulgaria, but they split in 2015. In 2016, she announced that she had failed a drug test at the Australian Open and will receive a penalty, to be determined.
