Lauren Morelli

Bio:
Lauren Morelli (born July 22, 1982 in Pittsburgh, PA)  is an American writer. She landed her first professional writing gig in 2013 on the Netflix series Orange Is The New Black and has stayed with the show since, acting as “lead writer” on several episodes. She’s also worked as playwright and her short play “Roach & Rat” was featured in a Lesser America production in New York.

Personal Life:
Lauren was originally a dancer, but had a career-ending injury, which led her to pursue writing.Lauren was married to Steve Basilone for two years until she filed for divorce in September 2014 after coming out as a lesbian. She has said that she figured out she was gay while she was writing for the main characters of OITNB. On October 4, 2016, Lauren became engaged to Samira Wiley, who she met on the set of the show and has been dating since publicly coming out. The couple tied the knot on Mar. 25, 2017 in Palm Springs.
