Kristen Chenoweth (born Kristin Dawn Chenoweth on July 24, 1968 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma) is an American actress and singer. Kristin was adopted when was five days old. At an early age, Kristin performed gospel songs for local churches. After graduating from Broken Arrow High School, she attended Oklahoma University. She graduated in 1990 with a degree in musical theatre. Two years later, Kristin got her Master’s in opera performance. In 993, she auditioned for a New York City production of Animal Crackers, turning down a scholarship to the Philadelphia’s Academy of Vocal Arts to start her career on stage. She made her Broadway in 1997, appearing in Steel Peer. In 1999, she portrayed Sally in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, which won her the Tony for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. After the win, she split her time between stage and screen. In 2003, Kristin returned to Broadway to portray Glinda in Wicked. She left in 2004 to join the cast of The West Wing. She returned to Broadway in 2006, in a revival of The Apple Tree and continued to act, including a limited 2015 engagement of On the Twentieth Century. In addition to The West Wing, Kristin played Olive Snook in the short-lived Pushing Daises series. She won the 2009 Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress. Her film roles have included Running with Scissors, Stranger Than Fiction and The Boy Next Door.
