Korryn Gaines

Bio:
Korryn Gaines (born Korryn Shandawn Gaines in 1993, from Randallstown, Maryland) was a former hair stylist who was killed in a standoff with the Baltimore police department. Korryn graduated from Baltimore City College in 2010 and worked as a cosmetic professional and hair stylist in Baltimore. On August 1, 2016, she was killed in a standoff with Baltimore County Police officers. The authorities had arrived at her apartment to arrest her for failing to appear in court on charges related to disorderly conduct and resisting arrest stemming from a March 2016 traffic stop. She was also charged with driving an uninsured and unregistered motor vehicle. The authorities entered the apartment and reportedly found Korryn aiming a shotgun at the authorities while she held her five-year-old son. After a six hour standoff, which included members of the SWAT team, Korryn reportedly threatened the officers, prompting one to open fire. After an exchange of gunshots, Korryn was pronounced dead at the scene.

Korryn was a mother of two – she had a 5-year-old son, who was wounded during the standoff. She also had a young daughter. She was known to be a “feisty” but “smart” and “respectful person.”
