Bio:
Katie Ledecky (born Kathleen Genevieve Ledecy in Washington D.C. on March 17, 1997) is an American competitive swimmer, Olympic gold medalist, and nine-time world champion. Katie’s 2012 Olympic trial in Omaha Nebraska, landed her a spot with the U.S. Olympic swimming team. She made her Olympic debut at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, making her the youngest American participant at the games. Katie won her first gold medal of her professional career in 400-meter freestyle. Following her Olympic victory, Katie competed in the 2013 World Championships, where she qualified in four individual events. She broke two world records, making her the first woman to do so in the last 10 years. At the end of 2013, Katie was named the World Swimmer of the Year and American Swimmer of the Year at just the age of 16. Katie went on to compete in the 2014 and 2015 World Championships, earning a number of medals in the 200, 400, 800, and 1500-meter freestyles.

Personal Life:
Katie Ledecky accepted an athletic scholarship to Stanford University, where she will swim for the university’s swimming team. She cites her older brother as one of her biggest influences for swimming.
