Bio:
Jose Fernandez (born Jose Fernandez on July 31, 1992 in Santa Clara, Cuba) was a Cuban-American Major League Baseball player. In 2007, Jose defected from Cuba to the United States with his mother and sister; he came a US citizen in 2015. They traveled to Cuba in a boat, and in turbulent waters, his mother fell overboard. He jumped into the water and saved her life. Jose was drafted by the Miami Marlins in 2013, and became Rookie of the Year. He was an incredible pitcher, who became the first to strike out eight players in his first game, since 1916! Jose was a two-time MLB All Star player, as well.

Personal Life:
Jose died in a boating accident on September 25, 2016 in Miami Beach, Florida. Jose was in a relationship with Carla Mendoza. Jose and Carla were expecting a child together at the time of his death.
