Ian Somerhalder (born Ian Joseph Somerhalder on December 8, 1978 in Covington, Louisiana) is an American actor. He began modeling when he was just 10 years old, eventually deciding to go into acting when he turned 17. His first major TV role was in the first season of ABC’s hit series Lost in 2004, which was followed by a lead role on The CW’s The Vampire Diaries in 2009. Somerhalder currently stars as Damon Salvatore on The Vampire Diaries.

Personal Life:
Aside from acting, Ian is actively involved in natural preservation work. In December 2008, he launched the Ian Somerhalder Foundation, an organization designed to raise funds for environmental efforts and to educate people on the importance of protecting the planet.Somerhalder dated his Vampire Diaries co-star Nina Dobrev from Sept. 2011 to May 2013. He and Twilight star Nikki Reed began dating in early 2014, and they announced their engagement in February 2015. The two wed in April 2015. Ian and Nikki happily shared the exciting news that they are expecting their first child together on May 4, 2017.
