Fidel Castro (born Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz on Aug. 13, 1926 in Birán, Holguin Province, Cuba) was a famous Cuban dictator who governed the country as Prime Minister from 1959 to 1976 and then as President from 1976 to 2008. He also served as the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba from 1961 until 2011. Fidel was a Marxist–Leninist and Cuban nationalist. While he governed, Cuba became a one-party socialist state, where businesses were nationalized, and state socialist reforms were implemented. Upon hearing the news of his death in November 2016, public celebrations began in the U.S. by exiled Cubans and Cuban-Americans
