Ewan McGregor (born Ewan Gordon McGregor on March 31, 1971 in Perth, Perthshire, Scotland) is a Scottish actor. Ewan grew up in Crieff, but left school at age 16. He worked as a stagehand at Perth Repertory Theatre and studied a drama course at Kirkcaldy College of Technology before moving to London. At age 18, Ewan enrolled in the Guildhall School Music and Drama, studying drama. Six months before graduating in 1993, Ewan won a leading role in Channel 4’s Lipstick on Your Collar series. He also starred in the BBC series Scarlet and Black. That year, he made his film debut in Being Human. In 1999, Ewan was cast as young Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. He would reprise the role for the other two movies in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. In 2001, Ewan starred opposite Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rogue!, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. Ewan appeared movies like The Island, Stay and I Love You Philip Morris. In 2012, Ewan was awarded the Donostia Lifetime Achievement Award, the youngest person ever to earn the honor. In 2015, Ewan was cast as Lumiere in the live action of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. In addition to his movie work, Ewan is active in stage plays, appearing in Guys and Dolls, Othello and more.

Ewan married Eve Mavrakis in 1995. They have four daughters together: Clara Mathildre, Esther Rose, Jamyan and Anouk. In 2006, they adopted Jamyan from Mongolia. Ewan is involved in UNICEF and the GO Campaign. In 2007, Ewan admitted he gave up alcohol after a period of alcoholism. In May 2017, Ewan and Eve separated and later, Ewan began publicly dating his Fargo co-star Mary Elizabeth Winstead. On Jan. 19 2018, it was announced that Ewan and Eve had filed for divorce.
