Donald Sutherland (born Donald McNichol Sutherland on July 17, 1935 in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada) is a Canadian actor. Donald spent his teenage years in Nova Scotia, getting a job as a news correspondent for a local radio station when he was just a teenager. He graduated from Victoria College, University of Toronto with a degree in engineering and drama. He left Canada for Britain in 1957, enrolling at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He quit LAMDA to spend a year and a half at the Perth Repertory Theatre. He started to get roles in the 1960s, starring opposite Christopher Lee in Castle of the Living Dead and Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors. His breakthrough came in 1968 with The Dirty Dozen. He left London for Hollywood, starring as Hawkeye in the film version of M*A*S*H as well as Sgt. Oddball in Kelly’s Heroes. During the 1970s, Donald appeared in films like National Lampoon’s Animal House, Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Day of the Locust. He appeared in Backdraft and Oliver Stone‘s JFK, and played Merrick in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie. In the later 2000s, he was cast as President Snow in The Hunger Games film franchise.

Personal Life:
Donald is the father of Kiefer Sutherland. Kiefer and his twin sister, Rachel, were born to Donald’s second wife, Shirley Douglas. They divorced in 1970. He married his current wife, Francine Racette, in 1990. They have three sons together: Rossif, Angus and Roeg. In 1978, Donald was made an Officer of the Order of Canada.
