Debbie Wasserman

Bio:
Debbie Wasserman (born Deborah Wasserman on September 27, 1966 in New York City, New York) is an American politician. She began her career in the Florida state legislature as an aide to Peter Deutsch. At the age of 26, with the guidance of Deutsch, Debbie became the youngest female legislator in the history of Florida. She served in the Florida House of Representatives for eight years. In 2000, she successfully ran for Florida State Senate on a democratic platform. Debbie is currently the U.S. Representative for Florida’s 23rd congressional district. She is a member of the New Democrat Coalition and currently chairs the Appropriations Committee Legislative Branch subcommittee. She most recently was re-elected in a close race, but saved her seat in the House with 57% of the vote. Debbie was chosen by Barack Obama in 2011 to succeed Tim Kaine as the Chair of the Democratic National Committee. However, in 2016, Wikileaks released some of Debbie’s emails that suggested herself and staffers had inappropriately backed Hillary Clinton in the primaries and criticized Bernie Sanders. She was forced to resign by Barack Obama.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz attended University of Florida and has lived their since. She is married to Steve Schultz and they have three children, Shelby, Jake and Rebecca.
