Colin Kaepernick (born Colin Rand Kaepernick in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on November 3 1987) is an American football quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League. He began his football career at the University of Nevada in Reno, where he played college ball where he was named the Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year twice, and he was the Most Valuable Player of the 2008 Humanitarian Bowl. He was selected for the NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round, with the 36th overall pick in 2011.
Colin’s pro career began when he became the 49ers’ backup to starter Alex Smith. Alex became injured in the middle of the 2012 season, and Colin became the full-time starter as the 49ers advanced to the NFL playoffs for the second straight season. That year, he set an NFL record for most rushing yards by a quarterback in his first playoff game. Colin led the 49ers to their first Super Bowl since the 1994 NFL season, after they beat the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Championship.
