Carey Mulligan (born Carey Hannah Mulligan on May 28, 1985 in Westminster, London) is an English actress. Her interest in acting started when she witnessed her older brother’s grade school production of The King and I. During rehearsals, she pleaded to be in the play and they let her join the chorus. She continued to pursue acting as a teen. Carey cites witnessing a Kenneth Branagh performance of Henry V when she was 16 as further motivation for her to become an actor. At the age of 19, Carey appeared in the 2005 film adaptation of Pride & Prejudice as Kitty Bennet. In 2007, she appeared alongside Daniel Radcliffe in My Boy Jack. Her breakthrough came in 2009, when she was cast in the lead of the independent film An Education. Carey received critical praise for her performance and was nominated for an Academy Award, Golden Globe and the BAFTA Award, the latter she would win. Carey has continued her stage and screen career, appearing in movies Drive, Shame, 2013’s The Great Gatsby and Inside Lleweyn Davis.

Before marrying Marcus, Carey was in a high-profile relationship with Shia LaBeouf, and is also rumored to have dated actors Tom Sturridge and Eddie Redmayne.
