Bill de Blasio

Bio:
Bill de Blasio (born Warren Wilhelm on May 8, 1961 in Manhattan, New York) is an American politician. He started as a volunteer coordinator during David Dinkins’ 1989 mayoral campaign. Afterwards he became an aide in City Hall. In 1997, he was appointed to serve as the Regional Director for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development under President Bill Clinton. He served as Hillary Rodham Clinton’s Senate campaign manager in 2000. In 2001 he was elected to the New York City Council representing the 39th District in Brooklyn. In 2009, he won the election for New York City Public Advocate, and on Sept. 10, 2013, he won the Democratic primary for the New York City mayoral race.

Personal Life:
Bill de Blasio was born Warren Wilhelm. He has explained that his family has always called him Bill, and he legally changed his last name to his mother’s maiden name after his father left the family. Bill met his wife, activist and poet Chirlane McCray, while they were both working for the Dinkins administration. They have two children, Dante and Chiara, who both attend public schools.
